Pixel's room: details

Look!!! It's Hobbes! Or to be more precise, my bulk of a computer. With Marvin (a robotic panda - yes) guarding it on top of the monitor (RH-1450), nothing can happen to Hobbes. The flat thing on the case is my scanner (plug & scan 96CP). On the left my Winnie-the-Pooh birthday calendar, and right behind there's crab in hiding which Neppie send me once in the spirit of APE. Hobbes has speakers (NTR Stereo Sound) attached to the monitor but he is also connected to my stereo (a Sharp btw). You can also see the Microsoft optical scroll mouse and my Focus Electronics keyboard (FK-6200).

Phear my cork bulletin board. On here I stick everything I need to remember or for what I just need a place. On it are: pictures of scouting, Diddle, Marvin in action, tv-programs, movies and my girlfriend. Poststamps (dated). The menu from our local pizza place. The address to some games-shop in Utrecht. A pirate armband. And much much much more junk!

Note pile of CD-ROMs (mostly adventure games, like Monkey Island, Broken Sword, Gabriel Knight and Myst), which sits on top of one of my loudspeakers and on a box full of 3.5 inch disk (yes, I still have a 3.5 inch drive and disks to go with it). All this is standing on my archiving cabinet filled with loads of important stuff. To the left is PJ Harvey on a poster for one of her album called "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea", and below that an inflatable crab Aglamian Neppie send me, all the way from America. You can also see my girlfriend's discman, which I use for playing cd's, since my cd-player has died.

Right, the big bookshelf. Lets move from the top down. The top row has my small collection of Stephen King books (Dark Tower stuff mainly). Below that there are my Stanislaw Lem books, my Enderverse books and some Cyberpunk. And also a row and piles of cd's containing soundtracks, punk, Billy Joël and more. Right, going down yet another shelf more science fiction, with Robert Heinlein and Frank Herbert books. To the right of the sf books another row of cd's, mostly gothic and strange female vocalists. Oh and yet another stuffed panda, which I think I got when I was in primary school, and sick for a long time. Anyway, then the bottom shelf, with more science fiction books, by Douglas Adams and Dan Simmons and also my pile of Discworld novels. Furthermore there is the second loudspeaker of my stereo and horizontally stacked my dictionaries and a bible (I got that in school). Right to all of this is my stereo (which of course is connect to Hobbes) and another stack of cd's (Catatonia, Levellers and Pogues). Also there is a load of ancient cassette-tapes (for those who still remember what those are). The stereo is serious broken btw, the cd-player functions hardly, the cassettedeck badly and the display-light is dead.

Okay! Bookshelf number two! This time working our way from the bottom shelf to the top. First of all a row of science/philosophy books, including books like "The Mind's I", "The Science of Discworld", "Flatterland" and "Imagining Numbers". And on the right a pile of computer books (Windows, DOS, BASIC, Pascal, etc). And next to all of that a good lamp (for reading) and a pile of Dune books (in Dutch - yes! yes! I have them in English in the other bookcase... I am a Dune phreak!). Right, the middle shelf now. Here reside three stacks of stuff, the first one, with another Panda on it, a series of English literature books from Tolkien and John Gardner. The middle pile has some children's books (Pooh, Paddington and some dutch stuff), and finally the left pile has books related to language, books and authors and also some plays. And to the left of this all are some history books. Then finally the top self which has more kids books, like fairy tales by Grimm and Anderson and some books by Jostein Gaarder.
Also there is a speaker from my broken record-player.

And here is bookshelf number three, the zig zag thingy. Starting below, the first two selves hold my studybooks, including books like "Mind and Cognition", "Prolog", "Introduction to the Theory of Complexity" and "Biological Psychology". Oh, yet another stuffed Panda (is there a pattern emerging here?). The third shelf has some comics (Mad and Calvin and Hobbes), an old Pop Encyclopedia, some scouting books and some books on photography. Then the top shelf has boxes with magazines and lots of scouting stuff (magazines, old hikes, etc)
An other thing in this picture: A cool filmposter of one of my favourite movies, "Fucking Åmål" (that is "Show me Love" for all you prudish Americans :o).

My coat rack, with several coats hanging on it of course, but also some bags and a panda handpuppet. Next to this, a closet which holds some clothes and lots of junk. On top of the closet de Beer (the Bear), a toy bear which I think my grandmother (dutch side) made for my sister when she was born. My brother got it after her, and after him there was me. And since I am the last one, I have kidnapped the bear. Also, you can see where I store my empty coke bottles before I return them to the store.

The coats again, though now from below, with the closet still on the right. Note the scary mask, which I bought for scouting once - which is really cool. Anyway, below some weird selves with my shoes (a pair of old walking boots - and a pair of sport shoes I use about once a year.) and lots and lots of computer junk, like diskdrives (3,5 and 5,25 inch), some harddrives and some powerboxes. The yellow box is full of wiring and the blue thing has lots of screws. Since I made these pictures, I cleaned up all that computer mess and thrown most of it away... Really!
