Pixel's room: details

The almighty Hobbes!!! Or to be more clearer, my computer. With Marvin (a robotic panda that Maaike and Eva gave me for my birthday once) guarding it on top of the monitor (RH-1450) nothing can happen to Hobbes. The flat thing on the case is my scanner (plug & scan 96CP). On the left my Winnie-the-Pooh birthday calendar and right behind Hobbes' monitor the Dorset 2002 calendar (the picture is of Lulworth Cove). Hobbes has speakers (NTR Stereo Sound) attached to the monitor but he is also connected to my stereo (a Sharp btw). You can also see my A4tech scroll mouse (I'd die without it now!) and my Focus Electronics keyboard (FK-6200).

Behold my cork bulletin board. On here I stick everything I need to remember or for what I just need a place. On it are: pictures of scouting, Diddle, Marvin in action, tv-programs and movies. Poststamps. A birthday card from my sister with her new email address which I still have to add to my mailclient. The menu from our local pizza place. The address of the retirement home of my grandmother. Some notes on photo's I still have to order for people I know. And much much much more junk!

Note small pile of CD-ROMs, which sits on top of one of my loudspeakers, and besides that a box full of 3.5 inch disk and a box of 5,25 inch disks (this all standing on my archiving cabinet). Behind the pile of CD-ROMs there is a promo poster for some Utrecht Choir concert. I had to have that poster (my real name is Johannes remember? :o)). To the left is PJ Harvey on a poster for her newest album called "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea". Oh, and as final detail, note the battery above PJ's poster. It's from my clock, but the clock's ticking drove me insane, so it's always 5 seconds before midnight / noon now :o)

Right, the big bookshelf. Lets move from the top down. The top row has got my fantasy books (excluding Tolkien). Below that there are my horror and thrillers, and a row of cd's containing soundtracks, punk, Billy Joël and more. Right, going down yet another shelf the first row of science fiction, with Robert Heinlein ruling the shelf. To the right of the sf books another row of cd's, mostly gothic and strange female vocalists. Oh and yet another stuffed panda, which I think I got when I was in primary school, and sick for a long time. Anyway, then the bottom shelf, with more science fiction books, mostly Frank Herbert and especially all Dune books (in English). Furthermore there is the second loudspeaker of my stereo and an empty bottle of Gladiator (the best beer ever!!!). Oh and the books stacked horizontally are Tolkien's, my dictionaries, a bible (I got that in school, and don't dare to get rid of it) and three plays which LAMDA once preformed (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo & Juliet and The Crucible). Right to all of this is my stereo (which of course is connect to Hobbes) and another stack of cd's (Catatonia, Levellers and Pogues). Also there is a pile of tapes and on top of the cd's lies my Discman :o).
About the things next to the clock: the green thing is my Dial-a-Pirate and the card next to it is the one the Axe sent me from his party island. (the black and white thing with all the babyheads is by Giger.)

Okay! Bookshelf number two! This time working our way from the bottom shelf to the top. First of all a row of all my studybooks, including books like "Mind and Cognition", "Prolog", "Introduction to the Theory of Complexity" and "Biological Psychology". Right of the Grants bottle (a fine Scottish Whiskey) are my computer books (Windows, DOS, BASIC, Pascal, etc). And next to all of that a good lamp (for reading) and a pile of Dune books (in Dutch - yes! yes! I am a Dune phreak!). Right, the middle shelf now. Here reside three stacks of stuff, the first one, with another Panda on it, a series of books that are related to my study (eg. "the Minds I" by Hofstadter and Dennett, "Kinds of Minds" by Dennett and the "Notes on Rubik's Cube"). The middle pile has books on Authors like Tolkien, Herbert and Gardner, and finally the left pile has magazines of, or related, to my study (mostly AiAiAis). Then finally the top self which has my photo albums and my notes of several subject I did in secondary school.
Futhermore in this picture is a picture of a scouting thing, a emblem of a hike thingy I once walked and the connection thingy for radio and tv (cable) and most important of all, my connection to the WarandeNet!

And here is bookshelf number three, the zig zag thingy. Starting below, there my cookbooks, several comics and some books on scouting stuff. Oh, yet another stuffed Panda (is there a pattern emerging here?), and besides that my paper on dragons, a book on crime in the dark ages (the subject for my oral history exam in secondary school (I got an 9 for that! 9 out of 10!), an old Pop Encyclopedia, a bunch of maps and a box with Elf Fantasy Magazines. Then the top two shelves have boxes with more magazines and lots of scouting stuff (magazines, old hikes, etc) and finally a stack of all the (secondary) school magazines I worked on and written stuff for.
Other things in this picture: A cool filmposter of one of my favourite movies, "Fucking Åmål" (that is "Show me Love" for all you prudish Americans :o). And on the chair a longsleeve of the gothicgroup "Trail of Tears" and a T-shirt of Paddington (Paddington rules!).

My coat rack, with several coats having on it of course, but also my bag and a panda handpuppet. Next to it a flag of the National Forestry Comity which we (=scouting) got (legally!) when we helped out at some grandparent/grandchild-day. And above this flag a sign saying "vol" (=full), also of the National Forestry Committee. Next to this all, a closet which holds some clothes and lots of junk. On the side of the closet a poster for a Pogues concert in Groningen (I didn't go there :o( but the day before that we did go to a Levellers concert in the same place)) And on the top closet de Beer (the Bear), a toy bear which I think my grandmother (dutch side) made for my sister when she was born. My brother got it after her, and after him there was me. And since I am the last one, I have kidnapped the bear. Next to it, the panda I got when *I* was born.

The coats again, though then from below with closet still on the right. Note the piece of rope hanging from the closet, this is the kind of rope we use in scouting to build stuff of beams (I nicked this one, though I am going to give it back, really!). Anyway, below some weird selves with my shoes (two pair of walking boots - though the left pair is buggered - and a regular pair.) and lots and lots of computer junk, like diskdrives (3,5 and 5,25 inch), some harddrives and some powerboxes. The yellow bow is full of wiring and the blue thing has lots of screws.
